A PROMISE AND A PRAYER

Under the shadow of Thy throne Thy saints have dwelt secure; sufficient is Thine arm alone, and our defense is sure. Isaac Watts

A Promise: The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him. Psalm 28:7

A Principle: This year we can relax, rest, and rejoice in the Lord. No matter what unfolds from day to day or from month to month, He’ll give us sufficient strength, and His presence will surround us as a shield.

A Prayer:  “O God our Help in ages past, our hope for years to come; be Thou our Guide while life shall last, and our eternal home.”

A PROMISE AND A PRAYER

I am well, but weak; and for another year of service I need that the right hand of the Lord may be laid upon me, and that He should say to me, "Be strong: fear not."  Spurgeon

A Promise: Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid . . . for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.                                                                                            Deut 31:6

A Principle: In his final message to the Israelites, Moses told them to be strong, courageous, and mindful of God's presence as they crossed Jordan and entered the Promised Land. "He will not leave you nor forsake you," Moses said. The New Testament applies those words to us in Hebrews 11:5 , so we can claim them as a promise of our own for the New Year.

A Prayer:  Father, to many people, today's just another day; and to You Lord, it's but a passing instant. But for me, December 31st is an occasion to entrust the past to Your keeping and the future to Your service.

A PROMISE AND A PRAYER

If Christmas isn't found in your heart, you won't find it under the tree.
Charlotte Carpenter

A Promise; But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God.                                                           John 1:12

A Prayer:  Lord, thank You for the Christmas gift of Your Son and eternal life.

A PROMISE AND A PRAYER

More light than we can learn,
More wealth than we can treasure,
More love than we can earn,
More peace than we can measure,
Because one Child is born.
                                                                                                            Christopher Fry

A Promise: Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people.                                        Luke 1:68

A Principle: A story is told of a man and his son who were walking slowly down the street one night, observing all the service stars hanging in the windows of homes to proudly proclaim the fact that a son was serving his country in war. The little boy clapped his hands excitedly each time he saw another star and was very impressed to see some houses had more than one star. Finally, they came to an open area where there were no houses, and the evening star shone bright in the velvet blackness. Suddenly the little boy said, "Oh look, Daddy. God must have given His Son, for He has a star in His window!"

A Prayer:  Father, let each star I see on top of a Christmas tree this year be a reminder of the immeasurable sacrifice You made when You sent Your precious Son to earth so that I may have eternal life.

A PROMISE AND A PRAYER

World history does not reveal another human being of whom it could be said, "God with us."                                                                                The Thompson Chain Reference Bible

A Promise: All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" --which means, "God with us."   -- Matthew 1:22-23

A Principle:  God had repeatedly promised it. Men, women, and angels had long anticipated it. Now, in Jesus, it happens. God is with us. Jesus is Immanuel. We live on a visited planet, touched by the very presence of God among us. And it was just as the prophets of old had said.

A Prayer:  LORD God, my heavenly Father, thank you for keeping your promises, especially when it was so incredibly costly for you to do so. I want to know you better, O God, not just as someone I study, but as someone I encounter in my daily life.

A PROMISE AND A PRAYER

An infinite God can give all of Himself to each of His children. He does not distribute Himself that each may have a part, but to each one He gives all of Himself as fully as if there were no others.    -- A. W. Tozer

A Promise: The Word became flesh and made his dwelt among us. We beheld his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.  John 1:14

A Principle:   Jesus is God's message. It wasn't a message contained in a book or given in a vision, or revealed on a mountain to only a watchful few. No, God's message was human flesh, bone, and blood. God's message came and lived among us.

A Prayer:  Father, I praise you for speaking your clearest, most profound, and most accessible message in Jesus. Because of Jesus, I know you love me, I know you have cleansed me, and I know I will share heaven with you.

A PROMISE AND A PRAYER

Oh, come to my heart, Lord Jesus; there is room in my heart for Thee.                                                    Emily Elliott

A Promise: There was no room for them in the inn.                Luke 2:7

A Principle: The question that lingers after Christmas is: Do we have room for Him? One of the mysteries of the nativity is why so many people missed it when it happened right under their noses. Even the innkeeper turned away the holy family, forcing them to seek refuge in a stable.

A Prayer:  Lord, there is room for You in my heart.  May You feel at home in every area of my life.
